CHIRU EXPERTISE

High-Tech Titanium Frame Tubes

Road, all road, gravel or mountain bike: The frame is the centerpiece of a bikepacking bike. Cyclists are often tempted to favor carbon for its lightness. But those who have actually experienced ultra-distance riding know that lightness is not the dominant criterion.

To swallow up the miles, whatever the terrain, cycling comfort is THE parameter that protects you.

Each CHIRU BIKES design bias is intended to maximize the return on your effort, while protecting your body from the aggressions of the terrain. Less tired, you go further. This is why we have set our sights on titanium.

THE COMPLEX SHAPES OF CHIRU TITANIUM FRAME TUBES

Because our gravel, road and mountain bike frames are intended for ultra biking practices, our design approach combines the search for comfort and maximum performance which are the essential conditions for endurance performance and pleasure during the ride. With this in mind, we pay particular attention to the tube sections used: no constant section tubes on CHIRU frames!

The oval shape of our tubes makes it possible to laterally stiffen the frame and avoid losing too much power when the frame is subjected to lateral bending due to pedalling forces.

OPTIMIZED DIRECTIONAL BEHAVIOR

To provide high-level directional precision, CHIRU frames combine a hydroformed constant-thickness downtube, an ovalized variable-thickness top tube and an oversized tapered head tube.

BETTER TRANSFER OF EFFORT TO PEDALING

On all CHIRU models, the sections of three tubes connected to the bottom bracket are shaped by hydroforming or forming processes to maximize power transmission. The use of oval sections allows the rigidity of the frame to be increased in one direction (larger width) and reduced in the other direction (smaller width).

INCREASED PROTECTION AGAINST SHOCK AND VIBRATION

In order to absorb impacts and protect the cyclist from vibrations, the chainstays and stays (rear triangle) are also ovalized in order to increase the passive “Flex” of the frame in the vertical plane. Less subject to shock and vibration, the muscles fatigue less quickly and energy efficiency will be greater to go the distance.

The precision of digital machining combined with the forming techniques that we use require a significant investment usually reserved for medium series production. Applied to small series production, this is quite rare and allows for exceptional finished product quality that combines artisanal know-how and industrial precision. The quality, reliability and fineness of the titanium welds of CHIRU frames are the result of more than ten years of know-how.
